Marks Cooking Conquest

Ey. It’s ya boi. Cooking some stuff apparently.

The preferment, rise and fall of Sourdough

I first started baking bread around two years ago, I enjoyed having a go at baking any type of loaf. However, I was always a tad hesitant when it came to sourdough, i saw the dedication it took and the added complexities of effectively creating and utilising your own rising agent. So when i first…

Pancakes, Kiki and food

While watching Kiki’s Delivery Service, and seeing how Kiki goes to the local supermarché to buy food. She then starts to worry that she will have to live off pancakes for a while. I then suddenly decided to make some fluffy pancakes. This again is stolen from the bbc food website (which i scaled down,…

Introduction

So, I’ve decided to start a cooking/baking blog.

Over the last two and a half years I have enjoyed attempting to make all kinds of food. Starting from the very humble beginnings of making egg fried rice with an entire head of garlic….then stinking out the office microwave every lunch break….then not realising my mistake until I’d already eaten three of the horrendous portions. Compare that to regular cooking at the present with the odd shift in the kitchen of a local pub.

I found cooking to be liberating and a chain reaction. Trying new recipes & creating something new, would not just give me confidence, but inspire me with new ideas and techniques i could use for previously unimaginable recipes.

I slowly moved from strictly following Stew, Pasta and Soup recipes to trying more adventurous and experimental meals. In the time it took my Stew to….well…stew on the hob. I could bake some bread/dumplings to go with it, or perhaps make a cake for dessert, or on some Sunday afternoons, learn how to make various cocktails (which my parents were more than willing to be the guinea pigs for).

As time went on I kept pushing to learn about how to make as many different things as possible, as well as enjoying the feeling of offering up what I had made to friends and family.

I’ve started this blog as a personal diary for what I’ve made, what worked, techniques and tips picked up along the way as well as general ramblings.

I hope you enjoy it.
